K-State clinches Big 12

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State’s Tanner Witt scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth as the Wildcats clinched the Big 12 regular season championship with a 6-5 win over Oklahoma.

Witt walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice and went to third after Jared King was intentionally walked and Austin Fisher was hit by a pitch.

OU catcher Anthony Hemelyn, with Jon Davis at the plate, allowed a passed ball to bring in the winning run.

Jack Mayfield had kept OU alive with a solo homer in the ninth. OU had a 4-0 lead after scoring three runs in the fourth and in the sixth but K-State came back with three in the sixth and one in the seventh, eighth and ninth.

The Wildcats are now 15-7 in the Big 12 and 38-15 overall. Oklahoma State (13-9) moved second place with a 5-0 win over West Virginia.

The Sooners dropped to 12-10 and 35-18.


STILLWATER — Tyler Nurdin threw a four-hit shutout and struck out seven as the Cowboys beat the Mountaineers for the second straight time.

Nurdin walked only one in going the distance.

OSU scored all of its runs in the fifth on the strength of a two-RBI single by Donnie Walton, an RBI double by Randy McCurry, an RBI single by Aaron Cornell and a sacrifice by Tanner Krietemeier.The Cowboys took advantage of two West Virginia errors and two walks.

Game 3 is at 3 p.m. today.

    The victory put the DBAT (34-7) into the Connie Mack World Series, which begins Friday at Farmington, N.M.

  • Meadowlake retains Enid Ryder Cup

    Jay Betchan might have a statement a week before he tries to defend his Wheat Capital championship next week.
    Betchan completed a perfect 3-0 record for Meadowlake with a 6-and-4 win over John Petersen as the Municipal Course took the Enid Ryder Cup for the fourth straight year, 131⁄2-101⁄2 overall.
    The two teams split six singles matches Sunday at Oakwood in the final day of the three-day competition.
