Jets look to extend streak

ENID, Okla. — Austin Hannum (1-4, 6.25 ERA) will be on the mound for the first game when Northern Oklahoma College Enid’s baseball team visits archrival NOC Tonkawa in a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader today.

The Jets are riding a six-game winning streak that has seen them jump up from the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference cellar to fourth-place.

NOC Enid would clinch fourth with a win in one of today’s games.

NOC Enid (16-34, 7-11 in conference) has outscored opponents 46-13 during the streak, including two-run rules over the Mavericks, 14-4 Wednesday and 15-5 Friday.

“We like where we are,’’ said Jets coach Raydon Leaton, “but we still have to win on Sunday.’’

Leaton said he will use “staff’’ in the second game, giving a number of pitchers a chance to throw.

It will be the final game before the conference tournament starts Thursday in Bartlesville. A seeding meeting is scheduled for Monday.

Russ Colgan (13 RBI) leads the team with a .414 average, followed by Korbin Polston (.371, four homers, 47 RBI), Sammy Terry (.321, five homers, 35 RBI), Aaron McCandless (.316, two homers, 23 RBI) and Chase Knott (.308, 26 RBI).

The conference tournament will start Thursday.
