SOSU for homecoming
Winless Northwestern Oklahoma State will be trying to keep its homecoming win streak alive when the Rangers host 1-4 Southeastern Oklahoma State in a 3 p.m. kickoff today.
The Rangers have won 17 straight homecoming games, dating back to 1995 —a streak that began with a win over Southeastern.
Home is a welcomed sight for the Rangers after losing four straight road games. NWOSU is trying to come back from a 41-3 loss to East Central last week.
Kingfisher’s Kyle Jech has been a bright spot for NWOSU completing 163 of 268 passes for 1,468 yards and six touchdowns. He’s thrown only two interceptions.
The Savage Storm are 0-4 in Great American Conference play.
Miranov happy with
Enid cross country coach Joe Miranov said he was pleased with his team’s regional assignment announced by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Associaton.
The Pacers and Plainsmen will be going to the East regional at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa with Bartlesville, Tulsa Kelley, Broken Arrow, Edmond North, Jenks, Midwest City, Muskogee, Tulsa Hale, Owasso, Ponca City, Putnam City North, Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Stillwater and Union Oct. 20.
The girls will run at 2 p.m. and the boys at 2:45. The top seven teams qualify for the state meet at Edmond Santa Fe on Oct. 27.
“It looks like they divided it up pretty evenly,’’ Miranov said. “I think it works out well for the girls. I would say we’re probably the seventh or eighth best team there. We’ll see have to run well. There’s not much else we can do now except to mentally prepare ourselves. We have done all the training. We just need to get after it.’’
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Thin at wide receiver because of injuries, the Browns have signed rookie Josh Cooper of Oklah-oma State from the practice squad.
Cooper, who was college teammates with Cleveland quarterback Brandon Weeden, is expected to play Sunday when the winless Browns host the Cincinnati Bengals. Cooper caught 71 passes last season at Oklahoma State as Weeden’s top target after Justin Blackmon.
The Browns needed Cooper with Mohamed Massaquoi (hamstring) and Jordan Norwood (foot) out with injuries. The Browns placed Norwood on injured reserve, but he’s eligible to return in eight weeks.
