OKLAHOMA CITY —
Burlington’s season came to an end Thursday as the No. 12 Elks (23-8) were eliminated in the opening round of the Class B state tournament 56-32 by second-ranked Arnett.
The Wildcats never trailed in the game as they sprinted out to an 8-0 lead to open the contest. The closest Burlington would get would be five points as Arnett closed out the first period up 10-5.
Arnett stretched its lead to 29-15 at halftime before Burlington’s Ryan Talbott opened the second half with a pair of three-pointers to close the gap to 29-21, but the Elks would get no closer the rest of the way as Arnett used an 11-0 fourth period run to put the game away.
Burlington was led in scoring by senior Brandon Gosselin with 14 points
Arnett’s Ryne Friesen led all scorers with 21 points, while Tyler Tune added 16 and had 17 rebounds. The Wildcats, runners-up in Class B last season, move on to face Big Pasture today, which defeated Moyers 66-64 on Thursday.
