Pacers have high hopes for prestate meet

ENID, Okla. — For the first time this year, the Enid girls will have their top five together for a pre-state cross country meet at Edmond Santa Fe today.

The Pacers’ No. 1 runner Abby Resendiz has recovered from an illness, which prevented her from running at the OSU Jamboree last week.

Savannah D’Auteuil will be making her varsity debut after missing the first few meets of the season because of a conflict with cheerleading.

They will be joined by Holly Stuart, Tyler Rempe and Andi Pierce, all of whom took at least 58 seconds off their fastest times of the season at OSU. Autumn D’Auteuil and Rachel Pyper round out the lineup.

EHS finished 21st at OSU without Resendiz.

“I’m pretty excited to see what we can do with our top five for a change,’’ said Enid coach Joe Miranov. “This is a pretty solid group.

“We finished at OSU where I hoped we would with Abby. Having her there will make us a lot stronger. Savannah is within 30 to 45 second of our No. 4 runner, which is what we have been looking for.’’

The boys will go with a lineup of Dalton Birchfield, Nate House, Jake Taylor, Garrett Wallace, Hunter Childs, Blake Recknagel and Branson Debrum, who will be making his varsity debut.

Miranov has challenged the Plainsmen to try to go under 20 minutes for the 3.1-mile course. Birchfield and Taylor were under 20 minutes at OSU.

Miranov expects most of the top teams in the state at the meet. Santa Fe will host the state meet on Oct. 27.

“It’s a flat, fast course with a lot of turns,’’ Miranov said. “I just want us to make a good showing.’’
