Cowley run-rules NOC Enid

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. —  Monday was a day NOC Enid’s baseball team would rather forget.

Cowley (Kan.) College completed a season sweep of the Jets Monday with a 13-2 run-rule victory, scoring four in the first, one in the second, five in the third and three in the sixth.

“We came out flat,’’ said Jets assistant coach Scott Mansfield. “It’s tough to come back when you get down that much early.’’

Cowley had 13 hits with Dylan Delso, Matt Anderson, Tyler Rolland and J.C. Sturgeon all having two RBI. Every Tiger starter had a hit. Cowley did not commit an error.

“They put pressure on us every inning,’’ Mansfield said. “They did the little things right and showed us how it’s supposed to be.’’

Jets starter Stetson Buller, in one inning of work, gave up five walks. He allowed four runs, all earned.

Zach Bradford did not walk a batter, but allowed seven hits and five runs over  11⁄3 innings.

“When you give up free passes like that, it’s hard to work your way back,’’ Mansfield said. “You throw strikes and they make you pay the price for it. Sometimes, you can out-think yourself a little bit.’’

The Jets scored twice in the second on RBIs by Adam Dolan and Kendall Webb. Korbin Polston and A.J. Wilson scored the runs.

“In all honesty, it’s hard to pull out positives in a 13-2 loss,’’ Mansfield said.

The loss dropped the Jets to 3-13 overall. NOC Enid is off until Thursday, when it visits Rose State for a doubleheader.

“In the game of baseball, you have to have a short memory,’’ Mansfield said. “We keep preaching to the guys that one of these days, things will go our way, and when that happens, things can turn around quickly.’’
