ENID, Okla. —
The Edward Jones McClure Cup is remaining at Oakwood Country Club.
Oakwood, despite losing six of 10 matches, still won the two-day event over the Enid Tennis Association 11-7 at Oakwood’s indoor courts.
“We had a lot clutch performances,’’ said Oakwood Country Club pro Jim Shaughnessy. “If those people didn’t play really well, we would have lost the cup.’’
He said the two key wins for Oakwood were John Donaldson and Kelly Callant’s 6-2, 6-7, 10-8 win over David Bloss and Jennilee Hockmeyer in mixed doubles Saturday and Mark Feightner and Kevin Curtright’s 6-3, 6-3 win over Missouri Valley Tennis Association Hall of Famer Richard Perry and Nick Wolf, 6-3, 6-3 in men’s doubles Sunday.
“John and Kelly gave us some momentum, which we were able to keep going,’’ Shaughnessy said.
Oakwood had entered the day with a 7-1 lead. Feightner was the only player to win two matches Sunday. He teamed with Melann Reid to beat Steve Wagner and Jan Hill in mixed doubles, 6-3, 6-1. Oakwood and the ETA will meet again outdoors this summer at Crosslin Park.
