ENID, Okla. —
Burlington’s Tiffany Rieger and Cherokee’s Grant DeWitt have the distinction of being most valuable players in two conferences — the Orient and Cherokee Strip.
Matt Guffy of Cherokee was named the boys coach of the year in both conferences. He took the Chiefs to the Orient Conference championship and a second-place finish in the Cherokee Strip.
Kale Pierce of champion Timberlake was voted the girls coach of the year in the Orient. DCLA’s Chad Hutchison was named coach of the year in the Cherokee Strip. Both took their teams to the state tournament for the third straight year.
Rieger, who finished No. 6 on the Oklahoma all-time 5-on-5 scoring list with 2,535 points, led the Lady Elks to a co-championship in the Cherokee Strip. She led Burlington to the area losers bracket finals.
DeWitt was the leading scorer for the Chiefs’ Orient Conference champions.
Rieger was joined on the All-Orient team by teammates Katelyn Garvie and Sarah Garvie, Kylee Severin, Kayla Castle and Bailee Clift of Timberlake, Kayla Wilson and Jennifer Myers of Mooreland,Jessica Unruh of Cheokee, Caitlin Theilen of Cimarron and Kenzie Johnson of Ringwood.
Severin, Katelyn Garvie and Castle also made the All-Cherokee Strip team along with Ashley LaGasse and Taylor Mendell of Lomega, Marian Muegge and Katy Starr of DCLA, Trista Cripe of Medford and Katie Davis of Kremlin-Hillsdale.
DeWitt was joined on the boys’ All-Orient team by teammate Austin Huckabee, Brandon Gosselin and Lane Newlin of Burlington, Logan Watkins and Mason Seelke of Cimarron, Landon Peach and Kris Svejkovsky of Mooreland, Moses Barcenas and Cole Swart of Ringwood and Kristopher Robinson of Aline-Cleo.
Gosselin, Huckeabee and Newlin also made the All-Cherokee Strip team along with Lawson Thompson and Jace Whitehead of DCLA, Tanner Misak and Ryan Kilian of Medford, Rolando Resendiz of Ringwood and Ethan Kale and Levi Hunt of Lomega.
