Indoor facility keeping Jets sharp

ENID, Okla. — NOC Enid baseball coach Raydon Leaton probably never appreciated his team’s indoor facility than he has the past week.

The facility has allowed the Jets to keep up their workouts despite having as much as 10 inches of snow on the ground this week.

The Jets did have to make one concession to the snow.

NOC Enid moved its doubleheader with Norhteastern A&M scheduled for 1 p.m. today at David Allen to Miami.

“We have been able to see live pitching and live defense,’’ Layton said, “but there’s no substitute for being outside. We’re anxious to get out again. We’re ready to put on the spikes.’’

The Jets haven’t played since beating Butler County (Kan.) 13-8 on Feb. 19 behind five RBI from Sammy Terry, a solo home run by Korbin Polston and a two-RBI single by Chase Knott.

Leaton said he will stick with same lineup the Jets used in that game. Knott, Polston and Wilson are beginning to form a solid 3-4-5 punch.

Polston is hitting .519 with two home runs and nine RBI. Terry is hitting .280 with nine RBI. Knott is hitting .333 with five RBI.

“They were swinging the bats real well the last game,’’ Leaton said. “That’s why we have them 3-4-5.’’

Zach Postoak (0-0, 0.00 ERA) and Hayden James (0-1, 6.00 ERA) are scheduled to pitch for the Jets. James has struck out five in six innings, but has walked nine.

Postoak struck out five  in three innings in his season debut two weeks ago against Des Moines Area Community College.

Leaton said he will have both pitchers on a pitch count.

NEO (5-2) is ranked No. 13 in Division I in the latest NJCAA rankings. They have lost six games to the weather.

Freshman Ramon Laureano is hitting .462 with 14 RBI, four doubles and three home runs. Jordan Goode has three homers and 12 RBI.

Staff ace Travis Remillard has a 2-1 record with 25 strikeouts in 13 innings.

“NEO always has some good arms,’’ Leaton said. “They have beaten some good people.’’

The Norseman are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Independence, Kan., Feb. 24, winning the opener 20-0 and the second game 6-1.
