Local sports briefs for 2-28-13

OBA making first area appearance in 4 years

Oklahoma Bible Academy’s boys (13-14) will be making their first area appearance in four years today when the Trojans face Hydro-Eakly at 8 p.m. in the Class 2A Area II losers quarterfinals at Anadarko.

The Trojans won three games out of the regional losers bracket last week to stay alive — 54-49, Snyder; 63-43, Walters and 52-33, Carnegie.

It was the first time this season OBA had won three straight games. The Trojans have won five of their last six.

Adam Eaton is averaging 15.8 points over the postseason, followed by Dylan White (12.3) and Preston Atwood (9.5).

OBA coach Alan Ford said the Trojans were playing their best basketball at the regionals.

Hydro-Eakly (23-5) lost to Konawa, 49-45 in the regional winners bracket finals at Rush Springs Saturday. They opened the playoffs with wins over Amber-Pocasset, 34-32 and Hinton, 58-57.

The winner faces the Fairview-Hinton winner at 3 p.m. Friday. That survivor plays the Latta-Konawa loser at 8 p.m. Saturday for a state tournament berth.

EHS outdoor track opener postponed

The Edmond Memorial Invitational, which was to start Enid’s outdoor track season Friday, has been cancelled.
