BROKEN ARROW,Okla. —
Enid’s boys failed to qualify as a team for the state tournament for the sixth straight year at the Eastern golf regional at Emerald Falls Monday.
The Plainsmen were sixth (the last qualifying berth) after 18 holes with a 340 but shot a 369 in the afternoon for a 709.
Scott Phillips, who had an 84 in the morning, had to withdraw because of an injury.
Enid failed to qualify an individual (top six from non-qualifying teams) for state as well.
Mason North had rounds of 84 and 85 for a 169, three shots away from making the state field. Other EHS scores were Colton Jackson (85-91-176), Stephen Nicholas (84-94-178) and Michael Houston (96-98-194).
“The second time through the wind picked up and we couldn’t keep the ball in play,’’ said Enid coach David Lee. “The course is tough enough without the wind. When the wind picked up, we didn’t handle it well. We had too many penalty shots. Those extra shots really hurt us.’’
