Timberlake's girls look to go unbeaten in Orient

ENID, Okla. — Timberlake’s girls will try to complete a perfect run in the Orient Conference tonight when the Lady Tigers host Cimarron in the first half of a girls-boys basketball doubleheader.

Timberlake clinched a tie for the league crown with a 52-45 win over Burlington Friday in a battle of Orient unbeatens. Kayla Castle led the offense with 16 points.

The Lady Tigers, ranked No. 6 in Class A, are 6-0 in the Orient and  18-3 overall.

Cimarron, 4-19 overall and 2-4 in the league, is trying to break a six-game losing streak. The Lady Blazers are coming off a  49-41 loss to Kremlin-Hillsdale Friday, despite 10-point efforts from Courtney McCartney and Mikenzie Lee.

The Blazer boys, 13-11 and 4-2, have won three of their last four games, including a 74-47 win over Kremlin-Hillsdale Friday behind 17 points from Logan Watkins.

Timberlake, 4-17 and 2-4, are trying to break a 13-game losing streak. Blaine Dungan had 10 points in a 70-25 loss to Burlington Friday.

It’s the last regular season game for both teams, who begin the playoffs this weekend.

Pioneer will be hosting tradtional Class A power Frontier.

Frontier’s girls, 18-6 and ranked No. 3 in Class A, have won six of their past seven games. Pioneer, 8-11, tries to bounce back from a 60-32 loss to Waukomis. Shelby Flavell had 10 points in that game.

Frontier’s boys are 6-18, but have won three- straight. The homestanding Mustangs, 9-10, have won five of their past six games, including a 73-34 rout of Waukomis Friday behind 21 points from Blake Gabriel and 17 from Colby Koontz.
