Fresh off two road wins in Kansas, Northern Oklahoma College Enid’s men will try to continue their dominance tonight over the Sunflower State when the Jets host Hesston, Kan., in a 7 p.m. tipoff tonight at the Mabee Center.
It’s the home opener for NOC Enid, who beat Kansas State-Salina, 72-66 and Brown-Mackie, 83-65 last weekend in Salina, Kan.
Jets coach Greg Shamburg scouted the Larks’ 110-76 win over the Centrald Christian JV Saturday night. Hesston beat Union College, 103-81 and lost to Barton, Kan., Community College, 112-65.
“They are not as big as the teams we played last weekend, but their guard play is a little better,’’ Shamburg said. “It will be a different challenge for us. They play really hard on defense. This being a home game will help our guys be ready to go.’’
Xavier McClish leads the Jets attack with a 18.0 average. He will be joined in the starting lineup by Kyndall Dudley (13.5), Connor Brooks (10.0), Travis Carbajal (4.0) and Brandon Burns (5.0).
Shamburg was especially pleased with McLish and the team’s scoring depth over the weekend.
“Xavier McLish showed leadership Friday and Saturday,’’ Shamburg said. “He carried us on his back. I think balanced scoring will be our strength this season. We don’t have to rely on one guy.’’
Hesston is led by Oklahoma City native Mahlon Jones, who had 18 points, nine rebounds and nine steals against the Central Christian JV.
NOC Eid beat Hesston 91-57 last season.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
