Courtney Chelf officially signs with OSU

ENID, Okla. — At last, Courtney Chelf is a Cowgirl.

The Enid senior and all-state basketball player signed a letter of intent to continue her career at Oklahoma State University under a scholarship Wednes-day in a ceremony at the Enid High School food court.

Chelf’s signing was the last step in a long saga for the 5-foot-8 guard. She received offers from Oral Roberts University and the University of Central Oklahoma and had conversations with coaches from the University of Oklahoma and as far from home as Florida before finally getting the offer she was waiting for.

Chelf’s brothers, father and uncle each went to OSU, and on Wednesday, she made if official — she will, too.

“It feels great,” Chelf said. “I’m so excited.”

Dozens of students attended the short signing event, filling a large portion of the food court with the hustle and bustle of a lunch period, though the ceremony was at 2:30 p.m.

“It’s one of the biggest (signing ceremonies) I’ve been to, and I’ve been here 10 years,” Pacers coach Robb Mills said. “I attribute that to her. What kind of person are you? How many people are going to show up? If you’ve got that many, that says something about your character.”

Chelf earned all-state selections from both the Oklahoma Coaches Association and Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association after her senior season, when she led the Pacers in points (18.0) and steals per game (2.3) and was third in rebounds with 5.4. She scored 25 points in her final high school game, a 63-53 loss to Mustang in the Pacers’ district opener.

A four-year starter, Chelf helped lead Enid to the 6A State Tournament her sophomore season and the Pacers averaged 14.5 wins over her career, including a 17-6 run in her final year.

So far, she hasn’t chosen a major.

“I’m still deciding on that,” she said. “I don’t know yet, but I’m going to work on it.”

With her collegiate destination finally resolved, she has time.
