ENID, Okla. —
Enid’s girls will face a major challenge at today’s Eastern Regional Golf Championship at Owasso’s Golf and Athletic Club.
The Pacers must finish in the top six to qualify for next week’s state tournament at Rivers Oaks Golf Club in Edmond. The top six players from non-qualifying teams will go as individuals.
“The east side is a very tough field this year so we’re going to have to play extremely well to advance everybody,’’ said EHS coach David Lee. “There are seven good teams there, so one good team is going to be left out.’’
Lee said an individual would probably need to shoot in the 80s to qualify.
The field, besides EHS and host Owasso, includes Bartlesville, Tulsa Kelley, Bixby, Broken Arrow, Jenks, Muskogee, Tulsa Hale, Owasso, Ponca City, Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Stillwater and Union.
Katelynn Bennett has been the Pacers’ top player this year with a 94.8 average, followed by Kayci McClendon with a 99.9, Madison Boler with a 101.6, Baylee Roberts with a 108.4 and Syndney Davenport with a 110.0.
Bennett has had two rounds in the 80s this season — an 87 at Jenks and an 89 at Del City’s Trosper Park. McClendon’s best round was 89 at Trosper.
“Katelynn and Kayci have shown signs of being able to shoot in the 80s or low 90s,’’ Lee said. “They are capable of doing it. They just have to do it on that day (today). We hopewe can get somebody in to represent Enid.’’
Area teams tee off in 2A regional
Mooreland, Alva, Pioneer and Laverne’s girls will be teeing off today at the 2A regional golf tournament at Prairie West in Weatherford.
The top six finishers in the 12-team field qualify for next week’s state tournament at Trosper Park. Mooreland won the regional qualifier at Meadowlake last week. Alva, Pioneer and Laverne were 4-5-6.
,Four area individuals — Timberlake’s Ami Adkisson, OBA’s Anna Zander and Chisholm’s Paige Holliday and Marena Elmore — are also in the field.
The top six individuals from non-qualifying teams also advance to state.
