Acers claim Edmond crown

EDMOND, Okla. — Enid’s girls strengthened their grip on their No. 2-ranking in Class 6A, taking three of four divisions in winning the Edmond girls tennis tournament Wednesday.

The Acers had 59 points compared to 48 for Edmond North and 47 for McGuinness. It was Enid’s fourth straight tournament title and the sixth this season.

Taking titles were Gabrielle Dick, No. 2 singles; Alex Dick and Kathryn Dillingham, No. 1 doubles and Savannah Blasi and Madison Blevins, No. 2 doubles. Alexis Blasi was fifth at No. 1 singles.

“It was a good day for us,’’ said Enid coach Darrell Herndon. “We were strong enough to outdistance the field.’’

Savannah Blasi and Blevins beat the No. 2 (Edmond North’s Rylee Tucker and Katie Luiszewski) and No. 1 (McGuinness’ Katie Conrad and Morgan Schick) seeds on their way to their first tournament championship.

“Those were two really good wins,’’ Herndon said. “It will really help for seeding purposes.’’

Alex Dick and Dillingham beat Southmoore’s Jordan Henry and Kelli Klinger, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles finals for their seventh straight tournament championship.

Dick and Dillingham, 31-2, have won 21 straight matches.

Gabrielle Dick won her sixth championship of the spring by beating Laura Lorenzo of McGuinness, 6-2, 6-1. That raised her record to 27-6. She has won eight straight matches.

The Acers are off until Saturday when they go to Duncan.
