Chelf softball All-American for 2nd time

ENID, Okla. — Enid High School graduate Courtney Chelf was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association High School All American team for the second straight year Tuesday. She earned second-team honors, improving her standing from a third-team selection last season.

Chelf, who has signed to play college basketball at Oklahoma State University, also was first-team all-region for the NFCA’s central region.

The ex-Pacer outfielder earned all-state honors in October after setting three school records during her senior season. She finished with Enid High School records in home runs (14), RBI (56) and doubles (13), hitting .455 with eight triples and 23 stolen bases.

After her final softball season ended in the opening round of the postseason, Chelf went on to tally team highs of 18 points and 2.3 steals a game for the Enid girls basketball team, earning all-state honors from the Oklahoma Coaches Association and Oklahoma Girls Basketball coaches Association. Chelf, who planned all along to play basketball, not softball, at the collegiate level, was courted by the University of Oklahoma, the University of Central Oklahoma and Oral Roberts before committing to OSU. She received her offer from OSU in April.

The Enid softball team returns only three starters from last season’s 16-22 campaign.
