Minors to host

Ponca City tonight

Fresh off a sweep of the Southwest Shockers Monday, the Enid Minors (15-19) will try to get closer to the .500 mark tonight when they host Ponca City in a 6 p.m. doubleheader at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

The Minors used strong pitching from Ty Golay and Bates Enmeier in beating the Shockers 7-3 and 2-1.

Both went the distance. Golay allowed only six hits while striking out five. Enmeier threw a five-hitter with four strikeouts and did not walk a batter. His teammates played errorless defense behind him.

“Ty Golay and Bates Enmeier were dominant tonight,’’ said Minors coach Seth Sturgeon after the games. “They threw a lot of first-pitch strikes and challenged the hitters. They got a lot of fly ball outs and ground outs.

“The last three games we have gotten good pitching, played good defense and got timely hitting. When you do all three of those, you’re going to win some ballgames.’’

The Minors will go to the Woodward Travelers Fourth of July Festival Thursday.

Enid will face the Woodward Minors at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dodge City, Kan., at noon and Bethany at 3 p.m. Friday and Weatherford at 3 p.m. Saturday.
