STROUD, Okla. —
Pond Creek-Hunter’s girls had a costly 64-39 loss to Frontier in the Class A Area III winners bracket finals Friday night.
Jade Jones, the Lady Panthers’ leading scorer, went down in the first minute of the second quarter after injuring her left knee. She tried to come back in the second half but only was able to play a few minutes before leaving.
Darin Jones, Jade’s father, told KCRC Radio his daughter “was in a lot of pain.’’ Jones was scheduled to see an orthopedic doctor in Oklahoma City Friday night.
It was not known if she would be able to play today when the Lady Panthers (24-4) face Velma-Alma at 6:30 p.m. for a state tournament berth.
Beth Childs led the Lady Mustangs with 24 points, 16 of which came in the third period when Frontier broke open the game with a 22-12 run.
C HERITAGE 50, OT (B)
MORRISON — Brandon McNaughton scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half as Pioneer’s boys outlasted Christian Heritage 54-50 in overtime in a Class 2A regional losers bracket quarterfinal Friday.
The Mustangs outscored the Crusaders 12-8 in the overtime, leading by as many as seven points with Nicholas Denker hitting four key free throws in the end.
The game was tied at 42 in regulation.
“Brandon McNaughton really stepped up,’’ said Pioneer coach Brandon Gallagher. “Aaron Chain really made a big difference with his defense and rebounding. He played like a senior who didn’t want his career to end.’’
Pioneer plays Hooker at 8 tonight at Chisholm.
OBA 63, WALTERS 43 (B)
MINCO — Dylan White scored a season-high 25 points as Oklahoma Bible Academy’s boys eliminated Walters 63-43 in a Class 2A regional losers bracket semifinal.
The Trojans (14-12) play the Carnegie-Navajo winner at 3 p.m. today in the losers bracket finals.
White was joined in double figures by Adam Eaton with 12 points.
The Trojans raced off to a 24-15 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
“We were very unselfish,’’ said OBA coach Alan Ford. “The ball was moving around and everyone was involved. When a shot didn’t go in, Dylan was there to rebound and put it back in.’’
CHISHOLM 52, PERRY 40 (B)
PERKINS — Danner Kiernan scored 18 points as Chisholm’s boys beat Perry 52-40 in a Class 3A regional losers bracket quarterfinal.
The Longhorns outscored the Maroons 18-10 in the fourth period to put the game away. They face Nowata at 3 p.m. today.
The Chisholm girls lost to Perkins-Tryon 45-26 in a winners bracket game. CHS faces the Morris-Nowata winner at 6:30 p.m. today.
PC-HUNTER 58, AGRA 50 (B)
STROUD — Brady Krittenbrink had 15 points and Mac Styles added 11 as Pond Creek-Hunter’s boys moved to within a win of the Class A state tournament with a 58-50 win over Agra in an Area III losers bracket semifinal.
The Panthers (23-6) led 30-17 at halftime and were able to keep the lead throughout the second half.
The Panthers will play Glencoe, a 68-66 loser to Velma-Alma Friday at 8 tonight for a state tournament berth.
BURLINGTON 92, BLUEJACKET 36 (G)
CLEVELAND — Tiffany Rieger scored 39 points as Burlington’s girls blitzed Bluejacket 92-36 in a Class B Area III losers bracket quarterfinal. Katelyn Garvie had 21 and Sarah Garvie 19 for the Lady Elks, who face Copan at 1:30 p.m. today in the losers bracket semifinals. Burlington raced out to a 23-5 lead and never looked back.
“We finally played some defense,’’ said Burlington coach Kirsten Pruett. “We forced a lot of turnovers early in the game and got into transition.’’
CAVE SPRINGS 76, DCLA 63 (B)
CLEVELAND — Lawson Thompson concluded his high school career with a 19-point effort in Deer Creek-Lamont’s boys 76-63 loss to Cave Springs in the Class B Area III losers bracket quarterfinals Friday.
Cave Springs took the lead for good when Wyatt Coiner hit a three-pointer just before the first quarter buzzer to put his team ahead 19-17. Brandon Tidwell had 17 for the winners.
RED OAK 66, LOMEGA 52 (G)
KINGSTON — Red Oak upset No. 2-ranked and defending state champion Lomega 66-52 in the Class B Area IV winners bracket girls finals Friday. The Lady Raiders get a second chance today against Midway or Bokoshe.
HENNESSEY 41, MERRITT 38 (G)
OKLAHOMA CITY — Shawnta Johnson and Tala Barnett each had 11 points as Hennessey’s girls eliminated Merritt in a Class 2A regional losers bracket semifinal. The Lady Eagles face the Wellston-Sayre winner at 1:30 today.
WATONGA 39, HENNESSEY 36 (B)
OKLAHOMA CITY — Travis Hartfield’s 15 points lifted Watonga’s boys past Hennessey 39-36 in a 2A losers bracket semifinal. Gage Kroll had 14 points and Junior Pina 13 in a losing cause for Hennessey (16-7) as its season came to an end
REJOICE CHRISTIAN 47, MOORELAND 41 (B)
Rejoice Christian eliminated Mooreland’s boys from the Class 2A playoffs, 47-41 at Chisholm High School despite a 16-point effort from Landon Peach.
