MIDWEST CITY, Okla. —
Scott Dobrinski hit six of 10 free throws in the second overtime to give the Okeene Whippets a 46-40 victory over No. 2 seed Red Oak at the Class B state boys basketball tournament at Carl Albert High School Thursday.
The Whippets (24-4) will face Lookeba-Sickles, a 72-67 winner over Tipton, at 6 tonight at the State Fair Arena in the semifinals.
Dobrinski had eight of his 12 points in the second overtime giving Okeene the lead for good at 37-35 when he converted on a follow shot.
The Whippets never trailed after that as Dobrinski and Hunter Miles both hit two free throws in the final 47 seconds after a three-pointer by Tyler Parks cut the lead to 42-40.
Miles was the hero of the first overtime when Okeene rallied to tie the game at 35 with three points in the final 4.6 seconds.
John Wood,who led Okeene with 13 points, was fouled with 4.6 seconds left with OHS down 35-32. He hit the first and missed the second deliberately. Miles was fouled on the rebound. He hit both ends of a one-and-one.
The game had been tied 29-29 in regulation.
Will Bedwell, despite fouling out in the third quarter, had 10 points for the Whippets.
ERICK 40, TIMBERLAKE 31 (G)
BETHANY — Erick led from wire to wire to hand Timberlake’s girls their fourth straight first-round loss at the Class B state girls basketball tournament 40-31 Thursday at Southern Nazarene University.
The Lady Bearcats (26-3) will play Okarche, 74-46 winner over Burlington at noon today in the semifinals at the State Fair Arena.
Makenzie Janz led Erick with 12 points while Shyli May had 11, including three three-pointers in the first half to help give Erick a 17-8 lead at intermission.
Tiffany Schlup led Timberlake with 13 points.
Timberlake’s Ami Adkisson had cut the lead to 24-21 when she scored off a turnover. A three-point play by Heidi Brinkley put the Lady Bearcats up 27-21.
The closest the Lady Tigers could get after that was 27-23 after two free throws by Schlup left. Erick scored seven unanswered points to put the game away.
