LINCOLN, Neb. — Brady Kokojan and Garron Nixon hit two-run homers in a five-run first inning as the Enid Majors concluded their Nebraska trip with a 12-9 win over U-Stop.

The Majors had 13 hits in raising their record to 20-7, finishing the road trip with a 3-2 record.

Brandon Rakestraw had three RBI with two doubles and a ground out.

“We were able to accomplish a lot of things on this road trip,’’ said Majors coach Chris Jensen. “You would like to go 4-1 or 5-0, but it always doesn’t work out that way. We bounced back well after the first day (when they were swept by Waverly Dental).’’

Jensen was pleased with both the offensive and pitching Wednesday. Cole Floyd threw 12⁄3 innings of scoreless relief after U-Stop tallied five runs to cut the lead to 10-9 in the sixth.

Jesus Gamez threw five solid innings. He gave up a grand slam homer in the first, but shut out U-Stop in the second, third, fourth and fifth.

“It was more of a hitters day,’’ said Majors assistant coach Butch Lingenfelter. “It was hot and the wind wasn’t blowing in like it has been the past two days. Both home runs were well-hit.’’

Enid got two insurance runs in the seventh. Tabor Charles, who reached on an error, scored on a fielder’s choice by Floyd. Rakestraw’s ground out scored Ward, who had two singles on the day.

Ward led off the game with a single and scored on Kokojan’s two-run homer. Floyd had an infield single, stole second and scored when Nate Williams reached on an error. Nixon followed with a two-run homer.

Rakestraw doubled home Kokojan, who had walked in the second. Floyd, in the fourth, was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Rakestraw’s double.

Enid added three runs in the sixth. Kokojan singled and Rakestraw was hit by a pitch. Melton doubled home Kokojan and Williams followed with  a two-RBI single.

The Majors host Harrison, Ark., at 8 tonight. That will be preceded by the Enid Minors and Harrison at 6. The Majors’ game can be heard on KCRC (1390 AM).
