NORMAN, Okla. —
Top-ranked Oklahoma is headed to the NCAA Super Regionals after run-ruling Arkansas 14-1 in a regional softball final at Marita Hynes Field Sunday.
The Sooners (50-4) will host former Big 12 rival Texas A&M, now of the Southeastern Conference next weekend in a best two out-of-three series with the winner advancing to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
The Aggies beat Baylor 8-0 in the championship game of the College Station, Texas Regional Sunday.
The Sooners pounded out 11 hits, including home runs by Lauren Chamberlain, her 27th of the season; Shelby Pendley, her 20th of the season and Javen Henson, her first of the season.
Arkansas’ lone run was a solo homer by Devon Wallace.
The Sooners scored one run in the first, five in the third, six in the fourth and two in the fifth to record their second run-rule victory of the tournament.
OU outscored opponents 41-6 in the regional.
Keilani Ricketts and Michelle Gascoigne combined for a three-hitter.
Ricketts allowed two hits in 22⁄3 innings, striking out four and walking three. Gascoigne allowed only one hit over 21⁄3 innings, Wallace’s home run in the fourth. She struck out three and walked one.
“I’m very proud of this team and their performance today,’’ OU head coach Patty Gasso told SoonerSports.com after the game. “They came out ready to play. Our goal was to make it one game. That was our focus and our commitment, and we were locked in and ready to go. I’m very proud of them.’’
Chamberlain scored three runs for the Sooners. Erica Sampson and Henson both scored twice. Chamberlain and Pendley both had three RBI. Henson had two.
The Sooners took advantage of four Arkansas errors. Nine of OU’s 14 runs were unearned.
