Sooners KO Marist

NORMAN, Okla. —  Oklahoma lived up to its No. 1 seed and more in run-ruling Marist 17-0 in a first-round NCAA regional softball game.

Sooner aces Keilani Ricketts and Michelle Gascoigne combined for a one-hitter and 12 strikeouts.

Ricketts struck out seven of the 10 hitters she faced. She did not walk a batter over three innings.

Gascoigne struck out five of the eight batters she faced. She walked two.

Krysten Van Natta had Marist’s only hit — a two-out single in the second.

The Sooners scored eight runs in both the first and third innings and had a single run in the second.

Lauren Chamberlain was 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a home run. She scored two runs.

Ricketts helped her own cause by driving in four runs and scoring twice.

Jessica Shults was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Destinee Martinez was 2-for-2 with two RBI and scored twice.

Brianna Turang was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Callie Parsons scored twice and had an RBI.

Georgia Casey and Shelby Pendley both scored twice. Casey had two hits.

OU (48-4) will face Arkansas (35-18) today. The Razorbacks beat Fordham 5-1 in the first game. Marist and Fordham will play an elimination game today.

The Marist-Fordham winner will play the OU-Arkansas loser tonight.
