EHS thinclads please Miranov at Edmond meet

ENID, Okla. — Enid track coach Joe Miranov was pleased with both the Plainsmen and Pacers performances at Monday’s season-opening Edmond Invitational.

The boys finished third with 54 points and the girls were seventh, with 31 points.

Alex Lofton was second in the boys’ 400 meters in a time of 51.2 seconds, despite running in a heat by himself.

“That was a great performance,’’ Miranov said. “If he was running in the same heat as the Edmond kid, there’s no telling what would have happened.’’

Lofton teamed with Seth Handley, Alex McCoy and Raheem Mitchell to finish second in the 4x400 relay (3:39.07) and with Mitchell, Johnny Lawrence and Handley to finish fifth in the 4x100 relay (43.07). He was fifth in the long jump (19 feet, nine inches).

Handley was third in both the 200 (22.4) and 400 (52.2) meters. Lawrence was third in the long jump (20-0), while McCoy was sixth in the 400 (54.06).

Josh Redd, Jake Taylor, Chris Daniels and Noah VanKirk were sixth in the 4x800 relay (9:21). Rob Frantz was seventh in the shot put (40-6).

The girls had three thirds — Macy Adams, high jump (4-10); Ellanah Schneider, shot put (30-0) and Lizzy Grothe, discus (90-8). Grothe was sixth in the shot put (29-3).

Tyler Berge, Savannah D’Auteuil, Andi Pierce and Holly Stuart were fourth in the 4x800 relay (10:56.1), while Pierce, Stuart, Misah Claytor and Adams were fifth in the 4x400 (4:42.1).

“We’re a little ahead of where I thought we would be,’’ Miranov said. “We haven’t been able to work out the last two weeks. Under the circumstances, we had some good times. It was bitterly cold.’’

EHS goes to Owasso Friday.
