FORT SMITH, Ark. —
Tulsa Kelley run-ruled Enid 11-3 in the fifth-place game of he Taco Bell South of the Border Classic Saturday.
Enid opened the day with a dramatic 3-2 win over Van Buren, Ark., as Zeke Sarver drove in Jackson Walker wih one out in the top of the seventh.
Walker had opened the seventh with a single, went to second on a walk to Shawn Spring and scored on Sarver’s second RBI of the day.
Sarver drove in Walker in third for Enid’s first run. Walker walked, was sacrificed to second by Spring and scored on Sarver’single. Jake Walker, who had walked, scored on an error.
Cole Floyd picked up the win in relief. He allowed only one hit while striking out three in 12⁄3 innings. Jackson Walker, the Enid starter, had struck out eight over 42⁄3 innings, while allowing two hits, three walks and one earned run.
“All the things that we need to get this year, we got to experience in this game,’’ said Enid coach Bill Mayberry. “It was good we could hold on to a lead to win a close game.’’
Mayberry said he was pleased with both Jackson Walker and Floyd.
“Jackson was keeping his walks down, which allowed him to pitch more innings,’’ Mayberry said.
Hunter Childs had an RB I single against Tulsa Kelley. Tanner Fore had a sacrifice fly for an RBI. EHS will host Putnam City on Thursday.
