OKLAHOMA CITY —  — Oklahoma Bible Academy’s volleyball team had a disappointing end to the 2011 season, losing to Christian Heritage 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament.

The Lady Trojans finished the season with a 25-11 season. OBA was making its fifth straight trip to the state tournament under coach James Ward.

Ward had said before the tournament this was the most confident he had ever been going into the competition. The Lady Trojans, though, had a frustrating day.

“We played like we were scared to death to bring it,’’ Ward said. “It was very disappointing to end it this way. You can’t change that stuff as a coach. If you don’t want to bring play all out, it’s hard to change.’’

Christian Heritage, Ward said, played well defensively, “but we didn’t bring out our best effort.’’

“That’s what’s so disappointing,’’ Ward said.

The Lady Trojans missed only only three of 49 serves.

“Our serving was incredible,’’ Ward said.

Ashley Atwood had 13 assists to finish with 1,023 for the season. Brooke Wayman had one kill to finish with 527 for the season. Abby Nickel was 9 of 9 serving to go 391 for 404 for the season.

The Lady Trojans will graduate three seniors — Wayman, Nickel and McKayla Kuykendall.

“That was absolutely a great group,’’ Ward said.

The loss, while disappointing, still didn’t take away from most of OBA’s accomplishments.

“Generally, I was pleased with the year,’’ he said. “I just would have liked to have seen more effort tonight. Here, you either win it all or lose one. Only one team doesn’t lose one.’’

OBA stats — Sydney Downing 4 kills, 15 of 16 serving 7 digs;  Andi Messenger, 1 kill, 1 block; Ashley Atwood, 1 kill, 5 of 5 serving, 3 digs, 13 assists; Brooke Wayman, 1 kill, 3 of 5 serving, 1 block, 9 digs; Hannah Jackson, 3 kills, 7 of 7 serving, 7 blocks; Brooklyn Wiens, 4 kills, 1 dig. Abby Nickel, 9 of 9 serving 10 digs; Addi Shamburg, 7 of 7 serving, 2 digs; McKayla Kuykendall 8 digs.
