EHS volleyers entertain Bruins

ENID, Okla. — Enid’s volleyball team will try to move up in the polls today when the No. 14-ranked Pacers host No. 11 Bartlesville (13-8) at Waller Middle School.

The freshmen play at 4:30 p.m., followed by the JV at 5:30 and the varsity at 6:30. It’s the start of a busy week for EHS, which hosts Piedmont Thursday and Lawton Friday.

There’s a bit of a sense of urgency with regional pairings being announced next week.

“If we have a good week, we have a good chance of getting a good seed for regionals,’’ said Enid coach Steve Bloom. “We got an opportunity to watch Bartlesville (last week at Bartlesville Tournament). They’re very similar to us height-wise. If we go out and play good defense, we’ll have a good chance.’’

EHS  (19-10) was 2-3 at the tournament, winning the consolation championship after dropping its first three matches. The Pacers were hampered by illness.

“The girls seem healthy again,’’ Bloom said. “Three or four of the girls have colds. It’s hard to go out and give 100 percent if you’re not feeling well.’’

Enid is 2-2 at home this season. It’s the first home match since a 3-0 sweep of Ponca City Sept. 12.

The Pacers will go with their usual starting lineup of Chloe Cordell, Sarah Blakley, McKenna James, Ashton Halper, Shaelyn Vaughn and Grace Enmeier.
