Jenks run-rules Plainsmen again

JENKS, Okla. — Rains washed out Saturday’s scheduled Enid at Jenks junior varsity baseball game.

The visiting Plainsmen might have wished the rains had come a little sooner.

The No. 2-ranked Trojans run-ruled the Plainsmen for the second straight day 12-0 behind a one-hitter by Jenks’ Terry Ward. Ward struck out seven and walked only two in the five-inning game.

Shaun Spring had Enid’s lone hit — a single in the first inning.

“He was pretty good,’’ said Enid coach Bill Mayberry.

The Trojans delivered an early knockout blow with seven runs in the first. Trey Michalczewski had a bases-loaded three RBI double.

Devin Johnson was two-for-three for the Trojans with a home run.

Enid pitchers Jake Walker, Bates Enmeier and Tanner Fore didn’t help their cause by walking eight batters.

“We didn’t play well at all,’’ Mayberry said. “They were good, but we had a lot of walks. It seems like it goes from one thing to another. Today, it was walks.’’

The Plainsmen committed five errors in a 14-1 loss to the Trojans on Friday.

The loss dropped Enid to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the district.

The Plainsmen will be off until Friday when they host Union in a doubleheader at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

“We just have to regroup and move on,’’ Mayberry said. “Hopefully, we can get some good weather so we can go after it in practice.’’

With a fifth Brickyard 400 victory on the line Sunday, Jeff Gordon looked like the driver he was 20 years ago.
Gordon nailed the final restart of the race — no given because restarts have been Gordon’s Achilles heel — to pass Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne with 17 laps remaining at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
