Lady Jets fall in opener

HOBBS, N.M. —  No. 9-ranked Northern Oklahoma College Enid, playing without star center Marisha Wallace, fell to New Mexico Junior College 68-56 in its season opener at the New Mexico Festival Friday. The Lady Jets got 14 points from Chelsea Bates and Rylie Swanson, but were hampered by inconsistency. Paige Eaton had 10 points.

“We didn’t play well for 40 minutes,’’ NOC Enid coach Scott Morris said. “We had little stretches where we would look solid, but we have to put it together for 40 minutes, instead of here and there.’’

Bates, Swanson, Eaton and Shannon Hough all played well, Morris said.

“It was a growing experience for us,’’ said Morris, whose team will play West Texas at 2 p.m. today. “Without Marisha, we have to find someone who will step up and take the lead.’’
