Sooners survive Texas by a point

NORMAN, Okla. — Without two team mainstays down the stretch, Oklahoma guard Morgan Hook, whose season-high scoring was six points, needed to be the Sooners’ savior.

And somehow it worked.

However tempting, don’t stick a fork in the Sooner women just yet — Hook had a team-high 15 points and a near triple-double as the Sooners (16-11, 7-7) knocked off Red River rival Texas

(17-9, 8-6) 64-63 Wednesday night inside Lloyd Noble Center.

Considered a must-win if OU is to reach the NCAA tournament on the strength of its regular season, the Sooners made it happen without the services of leading scorer Aaryn Ellenberg for the entire 40 minutes, and without the services of post Kaylon Williams for the final 5:46.

Ellenberg continues to recover from a concussion suffered against Oklahoma State, and Williams a right-knee injury, of which the severity is unclear.
