WARNER, Okla. —
Northern Oklahoma College Enid couldn’t hold on to an early lead, falling 7-2 in baseball Thursday at Connors State to the top-ranked NJCAA Division 1 Cowboys.
The Jets led 2-0 going into the third inning before the Cowboys erupted for six runnings, chasing Jets’ starter Austin Hammun who took the loss, allowing six runs while striking out one batter.
NOC Enid grabbed the early lead on an unearned run in the second inning when Jarame Littell scored on a passed ball after singling earlier in the frame. The Jets made it 2-0 in the third inning when Nick Yoning scored on an error after leading off the inning with a base hit.
But the Jets’ lead was short-lived as Connors State (27-3) scored six runs in the third inning on seven singles, including three straight to lead off the frame, and were the beneficiaries of two NOC Enid errors.
The Cowboys added a run in the eighth inning to make it 7-2 to secure their 12th straight win.
The Jets (11-9) were held to six hits by three Connors pitchers, with Josh Hammil going seven innings and striking out six for the win.
Nathan Boyd, the fourth of four NOC Enid pitchers finished the game, pitching three shutout innings.
The Jets travel to Hesston State (Kan.) for a doubleheader on Saturday.
