Acers finish sixth at Heritage Hall

OKLAHOMA CITY — Savannah Blasi, No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Gabrielle Dick and Alexis Blasi both won consolation titles as the Enid Acers finished sixth at the Heritage Hall Tournament of Champions Saturday.

Abby Gwin and Mia Goulart were seventh at No. 2 doubles, while Kaylee Heitfield was eighth at No. 2 singles.

Blasi and Dick (7-3) were upset by Edmond North’s Hillis and Morgan 7-5, 6-3, but came back to win their next two matches in straight sets.

Savannah Blasi (6-2) lost to Annie Hays of Edmond North 6-4, 6-3 in the first round, but came back to win her next two matches by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores.

Gwin and Goulart (2-2) beat a Metro Christian duo 6-0, 6-4 for seventh. Heitfeld (1-6) lost all three matches, but pushed Jenks’ Katie Wilcox 6-4, 6-4 in the seventh-place match.

The tournament brings together the top finishers from last year’s Class 6A, 5A and 4A state tournaments.

“It was a tough tournament,’’ said Enid coach Darrell Herndon, “but we learned a little bit. This was basically our second tournament.”

“There are things that we need to get better at and some things we need to correct.’’

Because of two rainouts, the Acers are still learning to jell and support each other as a team, Herndon said.

Enid will host its own invitational tournament Monday at Oakwood Country Club.
