Jets eye payback vs. Connors State

ENID, Okla. — Staff reports

Northern Oklahoma College Enid’s men will have a chance for both revenge and to move up in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference standings tonight when the Jets visit Connors.

The Jets are looking to avenge an 85-71 loss to the Cowboys Jan. 17 at the Mabee Center. Connors’ Hakeem Harris scored 28 of his game-high 30 points in the second half, including seven 3-pointers. Dalen Qualls led the Jets with 27 points.

“We can’t give them open looks,’’ said Jets coach Greg Shamburg. “We’ve got to cover the 3-point line and rebound. They are big and athletic inside. We have to make sure we rebound the misses.’’

Connors (10-5) is a game ahead of NOC Enid (9-6) for third place in the game after its 71-48 loss on Monday to NOC Tonkawa. The Jets are coming off an 85-75 win over Western.

“It’s big as far as the conference is concerned,’’ Shamburg said. “We can still get second.’’

NOC Tonkawa (13-2) has a two-game lead over second-place Murray State (11-4), which visits the Mabee Center Monday.

NOC Enid’s women (11-4) hope to stay in the race for second in the OCAC against Connors (6-9).

The Lady Jets are tied with Northeastern A&M and Murray State at 11-4. Eastern has a two-game lead at 13-2.

NOC Enid won the first meeting 76-50 behind 23 points from Kati Sullivan and 20 from Marisha Wallace. Sullivan is out with a knee injury. Wallace missed a 72-47 win over Western Monday because of illness.

Wallace “is feeling better,’’ said NOC Enid coach Scott Morris, “but we won’t know for sure until  (today) if she’ll play.’’

KCRC (1390 AM) will broadcast both games.
