ENID, Okla. —

Senior righthander Christian Voitik will be on the mound when Enid’s baseball team opens its season with a 5 p.m. game with Ponca City at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

The two teams will play at Ponca City Tuesday in not only the seaso opener, but the district openers as well.

Class 6A teams started the season later than usual this season.

“Thanks goodness they did,’’ said Enid coach Bill Mayberry. “Everybody is in the same boat. We had an extensive scrimmage schedule so we’re ready to play. I told our guys you can’t win a scrimmage, but you sure can lose them. When we threw strikes we were OK.’’

Voitik will be joined in the lineup by Kross Bay at catcher, Bates Enmeier at first, Tanner Fore at second, Cole Floyd at short, Hunter Childs at third, Tanner Lingenfelter in left, Elliott Holden in center and Gage McNeil in right.

Braden Rogers or Jonny Chavez will be the designated hitter.

EHS was able to work out in its indoor facility during the bad weather. David Allen’s new artificial turf infield “gives confidence to our infielders,’’ Mayberry said.

Butch Lingenfelter, Chris Jensen and Dennom Sullivan are back as assistant coaches.

The game can be heard on KCRC Radio (1390 AM).

Enid was 9-25 last season.
