Juco World Series arrives in Enid today

The National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Division 2 World Series returns to Enid beginning today with opening festivites, including a home run derby and a concert by Kylie Morgan at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

The official first pitch will be 9 a.m. Saturday as 10 regional champions from across the nation open play in the week-long double-elimination tournament. This will be the fourth year Enid is serving as host of the World Series.

Today’s activities will include a free concert by country music star Kylie Morgan at 7 p.m., preceded by the annual home run derby.

Fans can purchase series passes for $35, which will entitle them to admission to all of the games including tonight’s festivities, or individual passes are available for $5 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

All games will be broadcast live on KCRC (1390 AM) and a live video stream will be available from David Allen Memorial Ballpark  at

This year’s field has three former champions, including defending World Series champion Western Oklahoma as well as three-time title holder LSU-Eunice and five-time World Series winner, Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College.

The 10 teams in this year’s tournament have combined for 29 Division 2 World Series appearances and 12 national championships.

In addition to Western Oklahoma, Des Moines (Iowa) Area Community College, Madison College (Wis.) and Heartland (Ill.) Community College are making their second consecutive appearance in the Series.

National Championships: 3 (2006, ’08, ’10)

Notable: The top ranked Bengals seek their 4th national championship after winning it in 2010 in Enid but missing the field in 2011. The Bengals overpowered Hinds Community College (Miss.) 17-0 to return to Enid.

Players to watch: Sam Carriere (.332, 73 hits, 52 RBI), Cody Bouette (7-1, 1.73 ERA, 62 K).
