OBA entertains Alva

ENID,Okla. — Alva High School’s basketball teams might feel like they have to relocate to Enid.

The Ladybugs and Goldbugs, both coming off championships at the OBA Prep Classic Saturday, will be playing their fifth game in the Wheat Capital tonight when they visit Oklahoma Bible Academy in a 6:30 p.m. girls-boys doubleheader.

Alva’s girls, 6-0, beat Okarche 57-55 in the OBA finals Saturday. Tournament MVP Jaden Hobbs is averaging 21.7 points per game. Lora Riley is averaging 12.5.

OBA’s girls (3-4) lost to the Wichita Warriors 50-44 in their tournament consolation finals. They are led by the duo of Erin Cofin (13.9) and Tara Kelley (13.0).

Alva’s boys, 5-1, have won five straight since losing to Woodward 61-44 in the season opener. Lane Madsen is averaging 16.2 points, including a season-high 21 in a 54-33 rout of Pioneer in the finals. Tournament MVP Riley Hess is averaging 11.2 points.

OBA (6-1) will be trying to avenge a 54-46 loss to the Goldbugs in the OBA semifinals Friday. The Trojans are led by the twosome of Adam Eaton (17.4) and Dylan White (11.9).

In other county games tonight (girls records listed first):

Aline-Cleo (0-11, 5-6) at Covington-Douglas (3-1, 1-3) — Aline-Cleo’s girls fell to Drummond 37-22 in the seventh-place at the NWOSU Classic, while the boys lost to Waynoka 42-24.

Covington-Douglas’ girls are coming off a 47-43 win over Deer Creek-Lamont in the third-place game of the Pond Creek-Hunter Tournament. Hailey Kaiser leads the offense with a 16.7 average. The boys beat Timberlake 40-38 in the seventh-place game at Pond Creek-Hunter Friday behind Dylan Daugherty’s  13 points.

Cimarron (4-6, 8-2) at Pond Creek-Hunter (4-0, 1-0) — The Pond Creek-Hunter boys try to come back from Saturday’s 42-12 loss to Laverne in the Class B football finals. The Lady Panthers won their own invitational last week with a 63-49 win over Timberlake. Jade Jones is averaging 19.8 points per game.

Cimarron’s girls ended a three-game losing streak by beating Canton 43-36 in the seventh-place game of the Canton Tournament. The Blazer boys beat Canton 77-52 in the fifth-place game. It was the fourth time Cimarron had scored 70 or more points in a game.

Ringwood (3-2, 1-4) at Drummond (2-7, 8-1) — The visiting Lady Devils have won two straight, including a 40-22 win over Waukomis in the Mooreland Tournament finals. Ringwood’s boys are coming off losses to Sayre, 54-48 and Vici, 70-45 in the tournament.

Drummond’s girls broke a three-game losing streak by beating Aline-Cleo 37-22 for seventh-place at the NWOSU Prep Classic. The Bulldog boys, ranked No. 7 in Class A, fell to South Barber (Kan.) 64-62 in the finals for their first loss of the season. Brady Kokojan is averaging 25.3 points per game. He has been held under 20 points only once this season.

Waukomis (2-6, 4-4)  at Okeene  (1-4, 3-2) — Both Waukomis teams are coming off  consolation finals losses at the Mooreland Tournament — the girls to Ringwood 40-22 and the boys to Fort Supply 50-46. Hunter Lovell is averaging 16.3 points a game for the Chiefs.

Okeene’s girls losses have come to traditonal powers Lomega (60-49), Thomas (50-36), Fairview (49-30) and Arnett (56-40). The Whippet boys fell to Calumet 47-44 in three overtimes in the Canton Tournament finals despite a 15-point effort by Mikey Dobrinski.
