WASHINGTON — A source familiar with the situation says Virginia Tech baseball coach Pete Hughes is leaving to take the same job at Oklahoma and assistant coach Patrick Mason will take over as the Hokies' head coach.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the announcements have not been made by the schools.
Mason will be introduced at a news conference scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va.
Hughes, who is recovering from a heart attack on June 11, compiled a 222-174 in seven seasons in Blacksburg. The Hokies hosted a regional in the NCAA tournament for the first time this season, reaching the championship round before losing to Oklahoma.
Sooners coach Sunny Golloway left after the season to take the same position at Auburn.
