Plainsmen qualify for soccer playoffs

ENID, Okla. — It’s official: The Enid Plainsmen soccer team is going to the playoffs.

The Plainsmen (8-5, 4-3) locked up fourth place in District 6A-4 by virtue of Union’s 2-0 win over Ponca City Tuesday night.

Enid, which is ranked 10th in the latest poll from OKRankings.com, will travel to face No. 6 Owasso (8-0) on April  30 in the opening round of the playoffs. It will be Enid’s first appearance in the playoffs since losing 1-0 to the Rams in the first round in 2011.

The undefeated Rams have allowed only two goals this season, recording shutuots in six of their eight wins.

The Plainsmen ended the regular season with a 5-0 win over Midwest City on Friday, but had to await the outcome of Tuesday night’s Union-Ponca City contest to learn its playoff fate.
