Sports briefs for 10-04-13

ENID, Okla. — Cashion-PHS kickoff

moved up to 6 p.m.

Because of impending weather, tonight’s Cashion at Pioneer kickoff has been moved up to 6.

EHS volleyers going

to regional at Union

Enid’s No. 14-ranked volleyball team, has been assigned to the Union Regional by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association.

The Pacers will be joined by the host No.4-ranked Redskins, Norman and Sand Springs for Thursday’s tournament.

Enid has losses to Union (3-0) and Norman (3-2), but has a win over Sand Springs.

Oklahoma Bible Academy will be hosting a 5A regional Tuesday. The Trojans, ranked No. 7, will be joined by No. 14 Guymon, El Reno and Capitol Hill.

The regional champions advance to the state tournament.

Coaches vote Smart as

preseason player of year

STILLWATER (AP) — Big 12 Conference basketball coaches have named Oklahoma State sophomore Marcus Smart as the conference’s preseason Player of the Year.

Every Big 12 coach except OSU’s Travis Ford selected Smart for the preseason honor. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Joining Smart on the preseason All-Big 12 team is his Cowboy teammate — Markel Brown. Also voted onto the preseason team are Isaiah Austin of Baylor, Cory Jefferson of Baylor, Melvin Ejim of Iowa State and Andrew Wiggins of Kansas.

OSU’s Michael Cobbins and Le’Bryan Nash are honorable mention selections to the preseason team.

EHS spirit squads to hold

mini cheer-pom clinic

Enid High School spirit squads will hold a mini cheer/pom clinic from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

Participants receive a T-shirt, instruction from the EHSl cheer and pom squads and coaches and will perform during pre-game of the Enid football game against Union Oct. 11.
