ENID, Okla. —
Piedmont (0-0, 1-2) at Woodward (0-0, 2-1) — District 4A-1 opener for both teams. The Boomers have outscored opponents 131-48. Piedmont is coming off its first win of the season — 42-12 over Western Heights. Woodward has a 4-3 edge in the series since 2004, including a 28-7 victory last season.
Kingfisher (0-0, 3-0) at Heritage Hall (0-0, 1-2) — No. 2 vs. No. 10 in Class 3A in the District 3A-3 opener for both teams. The visiting Yellowjackets have won 13 straight regular season games dating back to a 35-27 loss to the Chargers in the 2011 season finale. The Chargers’ two losses have come against Clinton, No. 3 in 4A, and Davis, No. 1, 2A. Kingfisher has allowed only 50.3 yards rushing per game. Heritage Hall leads the series 6-2, but Kingfisher won last year, 35-6.
Hennessey (2-1) at Tulsa NOAH — The visiting Eagles try to bounce back from last week’s 31-0 shutout loss to Kingfisher last week and will be without quarterback Dylan Hatchel who is out for the season with a knee injury. Hennessey won the first-ever between the two schools 28-6 last season. NOAH is a home school team.
Fairview (0-0, 1-2) at Okeene (0-0, 2-1) — Okeene is ranked No. 7 in Class A. Fairview was in the top 10 this season, before back-to-back losses to Chisholm 14-6 and Tonkawa 17-7. Many feel this game could decide the District A-1 championship. Okeene leads the series 10-3 since 1970, but the Yellowjackets won the last meeting, 49-6 in 2012.
Carnegie (0-0, 0-3) at Crescent (0-0, 2-1) — District A-3 opener for both teams. Carnegie’s three losses have come against 2-1 Hobart and 3-0 Apache and Thomas. Crescent looks to build on last week’s 55-7 rout of Wellston.
Minco (0-0, 2-1) at Cashion (0-0, 2-1) —District A-3 opener for both teams. Cashion is ranked No. 9 in Class A, coming back from an opening game loss to Okeene. Minco has back-to-back wins over Wayne and Maysville after losing to Dibble in its opener.
Watonga (0-0, 2-1) at Crossings Christian (0-0, 2-1) — Watonga is riding a two-game winning streak, but both victories came against teams with 0-3 records — Burns Flat-Dill City (48-12) and Snyder (38-14). Crossings Christian fell to unbeaten Apache 41-10 last week for its first loss of the season. Watonga won the first-ever game between the two schools last year 39-8. District A-3 opener for both teams.
Burns Flat (0-0, 0-3) at Thomas (0-0, 3-0) — District A-2 opener for both teams. Thomas is ranked No. 1 in Class A.
Ringwood (1-1, 2-1) at Laverne (0-0, 3-0) — Ringwood tries to bounce back from last week’s 28-0 loss to No. 2-ranked Pond Creek-Hunter.The Red Devils were held to 64 yards rushing and 44 yards passing. Laverne is riding a 17-game winning streak. The defending Class B champion Tigers are ranked No. 1 in Class B. Laverne leads the series 5-1 and has won the last five meetings.
Medford (0-2, 0-3) at Pond Creek-Hunter (2-0, 3-0) — One of the area’s storied rivarlies, but this one appears to be a mismatch. The winless Cardinals have been outscored 186-69. The Panthers, ranked No. 2 in Class B, have allowed only one touchdown this season. Pond Creek-Hunter has allowed only 116 yards rushing and 82 yards passing while collecting eight turnovers. The Panthers have won the last eight meetings, but Medford leads the series 18-16 since 1970.
Waynoka (1-1, 1-2) at Balko (1-0, 3-0) — Balko is ranked No. 5 in Class C and appears to be back among the Class C elite. Waynoka is coming off its first win of the season — 42-20 over Buffalo. Waynoka leads the series 18-16 since 1976.
Shattuck (1-0, 2-1) at Buffalo (0-2, 0-3) — Shattuck looks to avenge last year’s 22-16 loss to the Bison. That was Buffalo’s first win over Shattuck since a 40-12 victory in 2001. Shattuck has won two straight since losing to Laverne in its opener. The Indians lead the series 10-3 since 2000.
Timberlake (2-1) at Sharon-Mutual (3-0) — Sharon-Mutual is ranked No. 3 in Class C. The visiting Tigers have bounced back well from an 84-44 opening loss to Ringwood. Timberlake is averaging 45.3 points per game. Sharon-Mutual is averaging 47.3 and has allowed only 10.7 points. Timberlake leads the series 8-2, but the Trojans won last season 56-6.
Bluejacket (0-1, 2-1) at DCLA (1-1, 1-2) — Crucial District C-3 game for both teams. DCLA is coming off a 40-20 loss to Timberlake, its first loss to the Tigers since 2009. Bluejacket fell to Cherokee 50-0 in its district opener two weeks ago. Harrison Muegge has scored three touchdowns for the Eagles and has passed for two more. DCLA won at Bluejacket last season 62-46.
Cherokee (2-0, 3-0) at Bartlesville Wesleyan (1-1, 2-1) —Cherokee, ranked No. 2 in Class C, has outscored opponents 100-0 this season. The Chiefs are coming off a forfeit from Carney. Tanner Bowman has scored five touchdowns for Cherokee. The defense has allowed only 42 yards rushing and 28 yards passing in first two games. That’s bad news for Bartlesville Wesleyan, which was shut out by Kremlin-Hillsdale 50-0 last week. Cherokee won last year’s game, 52-3.
