Pitchers spark NOC Enid softball debut sweep

ENID, Okla. — NOC Enid’s softball program had a successful launch Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Frank Phillips College, 8-0 and 4-2 at Pacer Field.

Summer Leika had a perfect game until the fifth in the opener, which the Lady Jets won by run-rule.

Kendra Coleman went the distance in the second game.

The Lady Jets struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning of both games.

“That was huge,’’ said Lady Jets coach Jamie Roberts.

Avery Walker had the distinction of recording both the program’s first hit and scoring the first run. Jazmine White’s double scoring Walker was the first-ever RBI.

Lacey Shipp had the first-ever home run — a two-run shot in the first inning of the second game.

Leika had opened the game with three strikes, a sign of what was to come the rest of the game.

“She just dominated,’’ Roberts said. “Kendra showed a lot of guts in the second game. It was the first time they had thrown on dirt since the end of January, and they both really looked good.’’

The Lady Jets  host Hutchinson (Kan.) in a 1 p.m. doubleheader today at Pacer Field.

“It was a good way to start,’’ Roberts said. “I hope we can keep it up.’’
