Enid wrestlers visit Bulldogs for district dual

ENID, Okla. — Enid’s wrestlers start a busy week tonight when the Plainsmen visit Edmond Memorial for a district dual.

It’s a makeup of a dual that was snowed out on Nov. 27.

Edmond Memorial is 12-6 in duals, but is not ranked among the top 15 statewide in 6A. Both teams have lost to No. 2 Broken Arrow — the Plainsmen  66-12 and the Bulldogs 56-6.

The Plainsmen go to Woodward Tuesday for duals with the host Boomers and Altus, ranked, No. 4  in 5A. They go to unranked Putnam City for another district dual Thursday.

Enid is 1-6 in duals, with all of the losses have coming against ranked teams, five of whom were ranked in the top five in their classes.

The Plainsmen were fifth at the Coweta Tournament last weekend with six placers — Billy Grothe, first, 132; Zac Overbeck, second, 220; Caleb Harris, third at 182; Brennen Melvin, third at 195; Keegan Clayton, fifth, 160 and Kenau Quinn, fifth, 106.

“The kids are beginning to see their improvement now,’’ said Enid coach Corey Clayton. “Everybody got better.’’

The Plainsmen’s next home match will be Feb. 4 against Owasso.
