ENID, Okla. —
The Enid Majors used six pitchers against OKC Sandlot, and none could throw enough strikes as the Majors missed a chance to take the Les Beckham League lead in a 16-8 run-rule loss Thursday at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
Entering the day a game behind Sandlot in the league, the Majors benefitted from a voluntary forfeit to close the gap and with a win would secure the top spot outright with a tie-breaking victory.
Instead, the Majors, dogged by a nine-walk, three-hit-batter performance from a shaky staff, Enid (35-14, 9-2) again fell behind Sandlot (30-8, 11-2) and likely lost the top seed in next week’s Connie Mack State Tournament.
Enid took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first on a sac fly from Garron Nixon and an error that scored Brady Kokojan, but Sandlot quickly put the game out of reach with a five-run third, a four-run fifth, and a Hunter Aguirre grand slam in the seventh. Enid failed to score in the bottom of the seventh to complete the run-rule loss.
