NORMAN, Okla. — Ex-Nebraska coach joins

Sooners baseball staff

NORMAN (AP) — New Oklahoma baseball coach Pete Hughes has announced his new coaching staff, including the hiring of former Nebraska coach Mike Anderson.

Hughes also announced Tuesday that he plans to retain pitching coach Jack Giese and coordinator of baseball operations Ryan Gaines. Anderson will serve as assistant coach and hitting instructor.

Anderson was the head coach at Nebraska for nine seasons from 2003 to 2011 and led the Huskers to a College World Series appearance in 2005. He was the Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005.

Hughes was hired as OU’s head baseball coach on June 27, replacing Sunny Golloway, who left the Sooners to take the head coaching job at Auburn.

Ellenberg has 12 points

in U.S. women victory

KAZAN, Russia — Oklahoma’s Aaryn Ellenberg scored 12 points in helping lead the United States women past Czech Republic 101-61 Tuesday at the World University Games. She was 5-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range. She had six rebounds and two steals.

TU promotes Coffey to

associate head coach

TULSA (AP) — Tulsa head women’s basketball coach Matilda Mossman has promoted Shane Coffey to associate head coach.

Mossman has promoted Britney Brown to recruiting coordinator. The university announced each of the appointments on Tuesday.

Coffey and Brown have been with the program for two seasons, helping the Hurricane record 30 wins, claim the 2013 Conference USA tournament title and advance to the NCAA Championship for just the second time in program history.

Murray State duo

transferring to UCO

EDMOND (AP) — Central Oklahoma baseball coach Dax Leone has added 10 players to the roster for 2014, including two from Murray State College’s national championship team.

The Bronchos gained eight junior college transfers including Josh Ingram and Jared Sterling from Murray, which won the Division II championship at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in May.

 The transfers also include Andrew Davis and Tyler Hatcher from Labette, Kan., Community College, Ethan Elroy from Cowley County, Kan., Community College, Tanner Ferrell from Ranger, Texas, College, Jake O’Brien from Neosho County, Kan., Community College and Dylan Raper from Seminole State College.
