Berge wins 3,200 at Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. — Enid’s Tyler Berge claimed her second straight gold medal in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:56 at the Stillwater Invitational track meet Thursday. Both the EHS boys and girls finished third as a team in the final competition before next week’s regionals in Claremore.

Berge was fifth in the 1,600 (6:07) and teamed with Andi Pierce, Irene DelaTorre and Kylynn Barton to finish second in the 3,200 relay (10:59) and with Rachel Shewey, Anne-lisse Schloss and Misah Claytor to take fifth in the 1,600 relay (4:33). Pierce was second in the 1,600 (5:48).

Claytor (1:04) and Schloss (1:04) were second and third in the 400 and Johnetta Washington and Keara Jenkins combined to finish fifth in the 800 relay (1:54). Jenkins was third in the long jump (15-6) and fifth in the 200 (29.01).

Shewey was second in the 300 hurdles (51.57) was third in the 100 hurdles (18-0) and high jump (4-8). Macy Adams was fourth in the high jump (4-6).  Stephanie Aguilar (2:48), Barton (2:55) and Kristin Mazza (3:00) were fourth, fifth and sixth in the 800.

For the boys, Alex Lofton was second in the 400 (52.12) and teamed with Bryan Harger, Raheem Mitchell and Chris Daniels to finish second in the 1,600 relay (3:32) and with Harger, Marshawn Mills and Daniels to fnish third in the 800 relay (1:31).

Mills was fifth in both the 200 (23.12) and long jump (20-10) and teamed with Mitchell, Harger and Daniels to finish third in the 400 relay (43.33). Harger was third in the 200 (22.77). Henry Wooley was fourth in the 100 (11.15) and sixth in the 400 (55.47).

Caleb Harris was second in the shot put with a season-best throw of 43 feet. Gregory Moreland was third in the 300 hurdles (45.0) and sixth in the 110 hurdles (18.73).

Garrett Wallace (4:51) and Jake Taylor (5:02) were third and sixth in the 1,600 and teamed with Gavin Lack and Aaron Beagle to finish third in the 3,200 relay with a season-best time of 8:43. Lack was third in the 3,200 (10:47). Wallace (2:11) and Antonio Thomas (2:17) were fourth and sixth in the 800.

“We did pretty well,’’ said EHS assistant coach Wade Hammond. “We’re getting better every day.’’

  • Meadowlake retains Enid Ryder Cup

    Jay Betchan might have a statement a week before he tries to defend his Wheat Capital championship next week.
    Betchan completed a perfect 3-0 record for Meadowlake with a 6-and-4 win over John Petersen as the Municipal Course took the Enid Ryder Cup for the fourth straight year, 131⁄2-101⁄2 overall.
    The two teams split six singles matches Sunday at Oakwood in the final day of the three-day competition.

    Being enshrined in the Hall of Fame can have those effects, even on the greats.
    Thomas, pitchers Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux, and managers Bobby Cox, Torre and La Russa were inducted into the baseball shrine Sunday, and all paid special tribute to their families before an adoring crowd of nearly 50,000.

    Gordon nailed the final restart of the race — no given because restarts have been Gordon’s Achilles heel — to pass Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne with 17 laps remaining at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
