ENID, Okla. — No. 3-ranked Western Oklahoma College’s baseball team might have to be regulated by the state’s Corporation Commission as a public utility.

The Pioneers turned on the power in sweeping an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader from Northern Oklahoma College, 13-6 and 6-4 Sunday at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

Western hit six home runs in the opener and three in the nightcap. The Pioneers hit 18 homers off NOC Enid pitching in sweeping the four-game series from the Jets (10-35 and 1-11 in conference).

“They’re a good team, there’s no doubt about it,’’ said NOC Enid coach Raydon Leaton. “When you get it around the belt, they will make you pay for it. We did that a few times today and they square it up.’’

Clemente Parra hit a pair of two-run homers in both games. Alnardo Rodriguez hit a solo shot in the first game and a two-run homer in the sixth in the nightcap, which would give the Pioneers their decisive two-run margin.

Five others homered — Sherman Lacrus, Casey Coyle, Hilden Rivas and Fraylin Paez in the first game and Rafeal Pena in the second.

Paez’s three-run shot in the second gave Western a 10-0 lead.

But Leaton saw some encouraging signs.

The Jets had the tying run at the plate in the sixth in the nightcap pinch-hitter Russ Colgan, who flied out deep to left.

Rowdy Dove hit his first two homers of the season in the opener and drove in four runs overall.

Sammy Terry had two hits in both games, including a solo homer in the fourth inning of the second game. He had two RBI.

Right fielder Korbin Polston threw out a runner at home in the first game and had another assist when he made a diving catch and doubled off another runner in the second game.

Shortstop Braden Martin made his first start of the season in the second game and made several nice plays.

Hayden James, in relief of starter Zach Postoak, allowed only one hit and struck out six over 41⁄3 innings, before giving up three home runs in the seventh

Austin Hannum gave up only six hits over 51⁄3 innings in the nightcap, but three of those were home runs. Jon Chidester threw 12⁄3 innings of scoreless relief in the nightcap to keep the Jets in the game.

“We competed today,’’ Leaton said. “We had a chance to win the game in the sixth. We had guys on and had a chance to do some damage. We just fell a little short.’’

NOC Enid, down 6-1 in the sixth, got consecutive singles from Chase Knott, Polston, Terry and Adam Dolan to make it 6-3. Dolan’s single brought in two runs. Terry scored when Dove grounded out for the second out.

Colgan, called in to pinch hit for Martin, drove the ball deep to left.

“We thought he might run into one,’’ Leaton said.

Hannum had only one bad inning when the Pioneers got three runs on the Parra and Pena back-to-back homers.

“Austin got a little frustrated on the two-run (Parra’s) homer,’’ Leaton said. “He threw the ball as hard as he could up the middle and it cost him another run. He just lost his composure for a pitch and it cost us.’’

James did a good job keeping the ball down, Leaton said.

“He just got a little fatigued at the end and the ball got a little elevated,’’ Leaton said.

The Pioneers raised their record to 38-7 overall and 11-1 in conference with the sweep of the four-game series.

Getting Martin back, Leaton said, “gives us a big lift.’’

Leaton praised Polston’s defense s well.

“He has a great arm,’’ Leaton said. “He works hard in practice and it pays off. He’s prepared himself to make those kind of plays.’’

The Jets will host Pratt, Kan., in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at David Allen.
