OKLAHOMA CITY —
Alexis Blasi and Gabrielle Dick, playing doubles for the first time this season, won the No. 1 doubles crown as Enid finished third at the Duncan West tennis tournament Monday at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
Edmond North, with 57 points, edged out Duncan (56) and the Acers (55) for the team title.
EHS got seconds from Alex Dick, No. 1 singles, and Kathryn Dillingham, No. 2 singles, and a fifth from Savannah Blasi and Madison Blevins at No. 2 doubles.
Alexis Blasi and Gabrielle Dick beat Duncan’s Samantha Cassidy and Sydni Henricks, 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 in the finals.
“That win kept us in contention,’’ said Enid coach Darrell Herndon.
Alex Dick and Dillingham, each playing singles for the first time this season, both lost to Edmond North players in the finals — Dick to Ann Pepper, 6-0, 6-3 and Dillingham to Rylee Tucker, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.
“They both did a good job,’’ Herndon said. “They had a lot more court to cover.’’
Savannah Blasi and Blevins had a bye in the first round, which might have hurt them, Herndon said. They lost to a new Edmond North team — the fourth different Lady Husky team they have seen this spring — in the quarterfinals.
“It was cold and windy all day,’’ Herndon said. “We can’t use that as an excuse, because it’s the same on the other side of the net. Some kids played through it today. Others still have a ways to go.’’
The Acers will go back to their old lineup Friday at the Heritage Hall Tournament of Champions.
