ENID, Okla. —
First-round pairings have been determined for the Plains District Baseball Tournament, which will begin Friday at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
Region 6 champion Hesston, Kan. (27-20) will face Region 16 champion Longview, Mo. (29-28) at noon, followed by Northern Oklahoma College Enid (34-22) against Hesston at 3 and Longview at 6.
Friday’s survivors are scheduled to play Saturday at 1 p.m. The team with the best record will be the home team.
If all three teams are 1-1 after Friday, a coin flip will be conducted to see who gets the bye into the championship game Sunday.
If a second final is needed, it will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The winner advances to the NJCAA Division II College World Series at David Allen Memorial Ballpark May 24-31.
“Our goal this season wasn’t just to win the Region 2 championship, it’s to win the national championship,’’ said Jets head coach Raydon Leaton after his team defeated defending national champion Murray State 30-12 in the region finals last Sunday.
NOC Enid is 2-1 against Hesston this season. The teams split a doubleheader at David Allen on Feb. 22 with the Jets winning the opener 3-1 and Hesston taking the nighcap 3-1.
NOC Enid won at Hesston 3-0 on March 29.
Jon Chidester was the winning pitcher in both of the Jets’ victories.
Hesston took the Region 6 championship by winning two out of three games against Brown Mackie.
Longview swept Wenworth Military, 16-0 and 22-1 for the Region 15 championship.
Mesa, Ariz., (47-12) became the first team to qualify for the World Series by beating Scottsdale, Ariz., 8-2 and 4-3 for the Southwest District Championship.
