EHS volleyers fall to Union in regional finals

TULSA, Okla. — No. 4-ranked Tulsa Union ended Enid’s volleyball season 25-12, 25-10, 25-19 in the regional finals at the U-Mac Center Thursday night.

The Pacers, ranked No. 14 in 6A, finished the season with a 22-11 record. EHS earlier avenged a loss to Norman 25-18, 25-11, 25-18.

“We had a good season,’’ said Enid coach Steve Bloom. “We hate to see it end. We hate losing our seniors (Chloe Cordell, Shaylyn Vaughn, Grace Enmeier, Sarah Blakley and Brianna Burrow).’’

Enid “played very good volleyball,’’ against Norman, Bloom said.

“We played good defense, we served well and we were communciating,’’ Bloom said.

But EHS seemed to lose some momentum in the 15-20 minutes between the Norman and Union matches.

“We never got back that enthusiasm,’’ Bloom said. “We never got going. We did play better in the third set, but we never had the energy level we had against Norman.’’

Enid, for the second straight year, won 20 or more matches and reached the regional finals. Union advances to next week’s state tournament.

Cordell, in her last two matches for the Pacers, had 24 kills, two aces and six digs. Vaughn had two aces and one dig. Blakley had eight kills, nine blocks and five digs. Enmeier had 10 kills, two aces, six blocks and six digs. Ashton Halper had  11 digs. McKenna James had six kills and two blocks. Taylor Smith had eight kills, six digs and two blocks. Taylor Foster had 12 digs.

Bloom praised his five seniors. EHS had won only nine matches total in their first two seasons.

“They were a great group of girls,’’ Bloom said. “They played hard and raised us to the next level.’’
