EHS tennis Ada-bound

ENID, Okla. — Enid’s tennis teams travel to the Ada Tournament today (girls) and Saturday (boys).

The girls field includes No. 1-ranked Jenks, No. 3 Edmond North, No. 5 Edmond Memorial and 5A powers Ada and Heritage Hall.

“We’ll be knocking heads again like always,’’ said Enid coach Darrell Herndon. “We’ll be taking some punches and we will be trying to avoid some hits. This is to get us ready for regionals and state and give us some ammunition (for seedings).’’

The girls were ranked No. 2 behind Jenks in the first Oklahoma Tennis Coaches Association rankings released this week. The Acers have been second to the Lady Trojans in their four head-to-head tournament meetings.

“It’s fluff, but it’s a nice thing,’’ Herndon said. “The important thing is where you end up at the end of the year. I would rather be ranked No. 2 than No. 23.’’

The girls will go with a lineup of Alexis Blasi (11-11), No. 1 singles; Gabrielle Dick (17-5), No. 2 singles; Kathryn Dillingham and Alex Dick (19-2), No. 1 doubles; and Savannah Blasi and Lulu Ruding (6-1), No. 2 doubles.

Dillingham and Dick are riding a nine-match winning streak.

The boys will go with a lineup of Koderick Miller (1-2), No. 1 singles; Tyler Hallett (0-3), No. 2 singles; Zach Gwin and Connor Angleton (1-2), No. 1 doubles; and Jason Christopherson and Blake Young (2-1), No. 2 doubles.
